About Allison

Allison Jensen is a dedicated literacy and dyslexia specialist with a strong background in school administration and special education. She began her career as a Special Education teacher in New York City, where she quickly recognized the inequities faced by her students compared to their general education peers. Driven by a deep commitment to educational equity, Allison worked tirelessly to develop stronger programs and more effective curricula for the students she served.

In 2012, she authored a proposal to restructure instructional practices at her charter school. The proposal was adopted and implemented, leading to a dramatic improvement in the school’s performance—from a “D” to an “A” rating on the New York City Department of Education’s School Progress Report the following year. In recognition of her impact, she received a Board Accommodation and was invited to apply for the role of Middle School Principal, a position she accepted.

As principal, Allison collaborated closely with families and teachers to design inclusive, supportive educational environments tailored to students’ individual needs. After three years, she was promoted to Director of Intervention for both middle and high school, focusing on supporting students with dyslexia and those facing chronic absenteeism. Following the birth of her first son, Allison returned to the classroom and relocated to the Greater Rochester Area. For the past four years, she has worked as a reading interventionist and private tutor, continuing her advocacy for students with learning differences. She remains a steadfast ally to families, guiding them through the IEP process and championing the rights of every child to receive the support and accommodations they need to thrive.

Allison approaches each student as if they were her own, and she works diligently to ensure educators and school officials recognize and respect every child as an individual.
