Educational Advocacy: My Practice

Our team serves Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York

As a former Special Education Administrator, Head of Lower School and a classroom teacher and now as a parent, I have sat at both sides of the table. As a result of my years of experience working with Response to Intervention (RtI) and Special Education teams, my advocacy is child-centered, collaborative, and goal-oriented. With this extensive background, it is my vision to guide and empower parents of students ages 3-22 to make informed decisions regarding their child’s education. I relieve the stress this complicated process may cause by advocating on your behalf for the support, services and placement crucial to your
child’s success.

I take an organized, personalized and calm approach to achieving the desired outcomes for your child. I provide quality advocacy services throughout all phases of the process, whether you suspect your child has a disability, your child is already in the Response to Intervention process and/or is already identified with an Individualized Education Plan and not making adequate progress. My philosophy is to always keep your child’s individualized needs at the forefront of my practice. As a result, my solutions are purposeful and actionable, yet creatively strategized to deliver the results your child deserves. I am proud of my successes thus far and would be honored to work with you and your family.

Why do you need Levy Educational Advocacy?

  • You need help with learning how to advocate on your child’s behalf. This can include written communication to the school, record keeping, and general meetings with school staff and administrators.
  • You received evaluations for your child and need assistance analyzing and interpreting the results and how they pertain in the educational setting.
  • You want someone who is knowledgeable of special education laws and requirements, both on a Federal and State level.
  • You need someone in the room with you that has experience working in the Special Education school system, and knows the thinking process of most educators and administrators.
  • You want a non-family member who can be a strong advocate for your child, without being overwhelmed by emotion (this can be hard to do when it is your own child’s future on the line).
  • You are new to the world of special education and need guidance on how to make smart, informed decisions for your child.
  • You need someone who is an IEP expert.
  • You need help with conflict resolution at your child’s school without going as far as hiring an attorney.

These are just some of the reasons why hiring Levy Educational Advocacy could be right for you and your child.

Individualized Services

Want to learn more about Educational Advocacy Services?

My  ultimate goal is for your child to receive the educational support, services and placement that they are entitled to.  There are a number of different individualized services offered, including records review, ongoing consulting, and meeting attendance.

I conduct a comprehensive records review to fully understand your child’s unique educational history, a clear understanding of their child’s needs and a direction for their individualized school program. I can help you obtain any records you may be missing. After we review the records, I will set up a records review consultation meeting to prioritize and discuss next steps.

Records may include, but are not limited to:

  • Response to Intervention Plans
  • Individualized Education Plans
  • Evaluations
  • Grades and Report Cards
  • Progress reports
  • Goal data
  • Meeting Minutes
  • Pertinent emails

My consultation services can be customized to the individual needs of the client. Sometimes you need in-the-moment advice. Meetings, phone conferences and zoom consultations are available to discuss your concerns. Execution of next steps can then be delivered by your advocate if preffered.

I can execute, prepare for and assist you in the following types of meetings:

  • Response to Intervention Meetings ( RtI)
  • Personal Literacy Plans and Personal Math Plans
  • Functional Behavioral Analysis Meetings (FBA)
  • Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Observations
  • Parent Teacher Conferences
  • Eligibility Meetings
  • Individualized Education Meetings (IEP)
  • Three Year Evaluation Meetings
  • Extended School Year Meetings (ESY)
  • Compensatory Time Requests
  • 504 Meetings
  • Transition Meetings
  • Resolution Meetings

Other Individualized Services

School observations enables me to gather information about the child’s functioning in the classroom. An observation provides information about the functional skills in a group setting. The child’s ability to attend, follow directions, complete work, and interact with others are best observed in the classroom.

I can compose all emails, letters, and responses for parents according to the clients needs.

Evaluation and comparison of school programs allows me to make recommendations about school and program placement issues. I am available to visit schools, review curriculums, and determine if there is a good fit between the student and school.

Referrals to other professionals and tutors are available when additional information is needed.
